Safaricom PLC is Kenya's leading mobile network operator, headquartered in Nairobi. It offers a wide range of services including mobile telephony, mobile money transfer, ecommerce, and more. Known for MPESA, it controls 64.5% of the Kenyan market and has significant shares in voice and SMS markets. Established in 1997, it became partially owned by Vodafone Group PLC in 2000 and went public in 2008. Safaricom is a top employer in Africa and had over 4,500 permanent employees as of 2020, with a widespread presence across the country.
